QOTD: Size matters?
What part of a smartphone size bothers you the most when making a purchasing decision? It is the weight, depth or general dimensions? Are you not bothered at all about size and only care about what it can do? That’s enough questions for today…

I’m fighting it, but the iPhone is taking over!

I have two phones in my life, a Nokia E71 and a 2G Apple iPhone, and they are meant to serve separate purposes. The E71 is used for email on the go, my calendar, financial monitoring, contacts and a few other ‘serious’ activities. My iPhone is used for my work SIM and was not supposed to be for anything else apart from listening to music.

Within a week or so of using both full-time, the iPhone is starting to quickly encroach on territory that my E71 should be owning. eBooks display so much better on the iPhone and the eReader software has now become stable enough to offer a simple and rich eReading experience whenever I need it. The screen brightness allows for complete flexibility to read in all weather conditions and the size does help to give more of a real book experience than most other devices can offer.

Video playback on the iPhone is also one its star features and watching a full length movie on another phone feels silly once you have experienced iPhone movile playback. Music is obviously catered for already and so none of the above is that much of a revelation.

What is surprising is that SplashMoney actually feels good on the iPhone now and offers a clear view of what’s happening with some half decent reporting included. I have been testing it alongside Money Manager for Symbian and there is a clear gap between the two.

I then a look at calendaring (is that really a word?) and I’m even starting to like the built in iPhone calendar. The more I use the software the more I can appreciate the simplistic interface of the iPhone.

At is stands the E71 still wins on the web front (3G, HSDPA etc.), for email and for many other activities, but I am learning that not having one phone that does it all is not the end of the world. These two phones compliment each other, with each covering the other’s fallibilities very well indeed.

UPDATE: The more I use the iPhone, the slower it gets. I have 10 third party applications installed and it crawls to a halt after a few applications have been opened and close. Ignore everything I wrote above:)
