Nokia E65 and internet voice calls

Hello Shaun,
I’m not a total expert in internet telephony, but I’m no noob, and it took me a while to get this working using my home wifi connection, so I thought I’d share it with the readers.

*** Firstly, find your wireless lan and create a connection entry for it.

MENU button -> [icon/tools] -> [icon/settings] -> [icon/connection] -> [tab/Access Points] Create a new access point, using options, new, default, give it a name e.g. “wifi home”, change data bearer to wireless, scan for the access point, and set up other options as appropriate.

*** Secondly, enter the details of your telephone provider

You then go back to connection and find the [sip settings] sub menu, add a new one, call it “Sipgate-mine” or something as follows

- service profile is IETF
- define the default access point
- in the public user name write somethink like sip:6123456@sipgate.co.uk where 6123456 is your login/short number -use compression No
-Registration: When needed
- Use security: No
-Proxy server
Proxy server address sip: sipgate.co.uk
Realm sipgate.co.uk
user name: Your phone number (like 6123456)
password: your account password
allow loose routing No
Transport type UDP
Port: 5060
- Registrar Server
Proxy server address sip: sipgate.co.uk
Realm sipgate.co.uk
user name: Your phone number (like 6123456)
password: your account password
allow loose routing No
Transport type UDP
Port: 5060

*** Finally
then, you go back to “internet telephone settings”, create a profile called “sipgate” and add the “sipgate-mine” entry.
*** Before making a call

Go to [icon/connections] and choose [icon/inter tel.].. and it should offer you the new wifi access point, then register and connect

If you and your friends are on the same provider, you simply dial their number and use the option key to make it an internet call – usually these are free.

Sipgate subscribers can ring many other networks for free, e.g.
FreeWorldDialup (dial 000393 + fwd number, e.g. 000393612 for speaking clock – the time given is in Seattle!).

I know this is a bit of a brain dump, but I hope if someone is doing it
with the phone in front of them it shouldn’t be too hard!
regards
Paul
