Since acquiring a T-Mobile MDA Mail I have managed to set everything up as I would like except GPS which has become a major pain to get working. I have tried a few solutions and none of them have worked acceptably so I decided to try out my copy of TomTom Navigator 6. With help from the marvellous XDA Developers site I have finally managed to get TomTom running on my smartphone but there is a bit of set up required and admittedly it can be a little time consuming inputting addresses. I am not including direct links to applications so you will need to do a Google to find them-
1) Install TomTom Navigator as you normally would- I undertook a standard installation and came across no issues.
2) Get yourself a copy of SetJogBar and also FakeCursor. Enable JOGGR and then use SetJogBar to assign FakeCursor to the JOGGR top key and assign TomTom to the JOGGR bottom key.
3) The main issue with TomTom on these devices is that the keyboard mapping does not work correctly and with seemingly no solution arriving from TomTom in the near future we have to use a series of fixes to input addresses etc. Open TomTom using the JOGGR key assigned above and then open Fake Cursor which should now allow you to navigate around the on screen keyboard and to choose the options in TomTom. It can be slow to do but once you have a lot of favourites input all should be OK.
There is an extra solution that helps a lot when setting up TomTom for the first time and that is Pocket Controller Professional which enables you to control your smartphone via your PC- a very good way to set up things like TomTom Traffic and to add favourites.
If you are still struggling to tap the correct keys in TomTom remember that some of the keys behave like standard mobile phone keys e.g. pressing 2 twice will bring up a B and three times a C- obviously annoying but you start to understand it eventually.
You may wonder why I have gone to all of this trouble to set up some GPS software when there are other compatible offerings available and there is no answer except that I guess it speaks volumes for the quality of the TomTom software.
