Apple Rejects iNorris Joke Application

13 March 2009 by Shaun 2 Comments

chuckApple has rejected the iNorris application because it breaks a specific rule about ridiculing a public figure. I can understand this given the rules, but farting apps are OK? I guess having rules will never please everyone, and to be fair things have been fairly consistent so far.

“Oh the horror!! The highly anticipated iPhone joke generating app ‘iNorris’, has allegedly been rejected by Apple because it “ridicules a public figure”, citing Section (3.1.12) of the iPhone SDK Agreement which specifically states:

Applications must not contain any obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, etc.), or other content or materials that in Apple’s reasonable judgment may be found objectionable by iPhone or iPod touch users.” More at iPhone Saviour.

Doesn’t sound that specific to me. If someone releases an App which states “X is a tax dodger” which is obviously defamatory then I could understand, but what happened to the protection of parody and free speech in the US? I imagine this App is as funny as drilling your own teeth but I still don’t see the justification for stopping it as it’s obviously a joke.

Not a fan of Apple’s approvals system myself, but purely because of the times taken to approve applications sometimes.

Obviously, i’m biased, waiting earnestly for Pocket Informant to be released, but a note from Alex on the PI site has noted that their Notes2Self application is still waiting for approval, having been submitted some time in January?!

Anyone would think they’ve based it on my company’s expenses system (shamless moan)
