QOTD: Birthdays, anniversaries…?

tomMy son is 9 years old today and so it is a special day for the whole family. Do you track Birthdays, anniversaries and other special events with your smartphone? I cannot tell you how many times a smartphone has saved me from forgetting something important.

I also did, until the iPhone. I always used special programs for that and not calendar, and set an alarm for a birthday. Up until today (I know 3.0 can) the iPhone can’t do a simple thing like that and since then I have a birthdaycalendar hanging on the kitchenwall again.

Yes, and I’ve just realised it’s my nieces birthday tomorrow – aaargh! *scurries off to find card*

Only via the Calendar app. I found this works the best for me. BTW its my youngest boy’s birthday too today and my twins on Sat.

I use the calendar also to track various special occasions. It works really well, and the funny thing is, even people who’ve seen how I use my phone, for some reason still seem amazed at how I “always remember” their special occasion and send them a quick message. Other people think I cheat! I don’t see how it’s cheating, and it always makes people incredibly happy when you “remember” something which is special for them.

I keep all birthdays and anniversaries details in the contacts app, which puts them into my calendar for me.
I even set up contact records purely to record the birthday, and a contact picture.
I have been keeping track of birthdays, etc electronically since my first Psion Organiser in the late 1980′s.

I don’t input everyone’s birthday, but I do have those that are important to me… and yes, it’s fantastic to have the PDA alerting me for that, year after year… I don’t forget a single one ;)

Just another thing: I have a free application that can also record several kinds of information related to the birthday… and the good thing is to know exactly the age of the person. You can always find a way to joke about the age… and it does surprise them as… “are you counting the days?!?!”

  8. RuiD says:

… you can just say “congratulations on your 13140 day, X hours, XX minutes on Earth. Cool.
