Nokia 5800 beats the iPhone

58007The Nokia 5800 is the Carphone Warehouse top pay monthly seller currently with the iPhone in second place and the Samsung Ultra in third. The iPhone does not appear in the top ten for pay as you go. More at The Nokia Blog.

“The Carphone Warehouse (a.k.a. The Phone House) is “Europe’s largest independent mobile phone retailer, with over 1700 stores”, so it is somewhat, a little bit of an achievement for the 5800 to be the number 1 pay monthly handset, leaving Apple’s iPhone in 2nd and Samsung’s Tocco Ultra in 3rd.”

Not bad given that the iPhone has had free and massive amounts of media hype and in the UK TV advertising for years. The unknown 5800 sells in higher volumes says a lot for how sensible ‘real’ consumers are.

Not surprising as the phone is FREE on most contacts.

Just because it is a top-seller does not mean it is the best device out there (which it patently isn’t). Nokia owners seem able to accept a far lower standard of device, good for them I say.

@Gavin, but the iPhone 3G is free on 24 month contracts

@murrayalex, I am just stating facts not making value judgements about the 5800/iPhone. The 5800 has had as far as I know no UK TV advertising and I have not see any media splahes about the 5800.

The iPhone may be free on 24 month contract but the 5800 monthly tariff cost can be had for considerably less – saving over 24 months a minimum of £400.
