The latest iTunes update (v8.2.1) kills Palm Pre syncing which is no real surprise. BGR has all the details, but Palm is in danger of turning into the Dev Team by continually trying to release updates to enable syncing again, and so the story will continue.
MotionApps has announced that HotSync capability is being added to its Classic Palm OS emulator. It will be able to sync over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and most of the original data you used to be able to keep up0 to date should be covered.
Toshiba, who rarely seem to release a decent smartphone these days, has dropped the ball again and sent out TG01s with a free virus pre-installed. It seems to only affect customers in Germany and there are no numbers concerning how many have been affected at this time. I guess this is good news for mobile anti-virus software developers who can now claim that one actually exists. More at The Clove Blog.
PCWorld has posted a new article entitled BlackBerry vs. iPhone 3.0: Smackdown Revisited and the following line sums the whole thing up- “For everyone else, the BlackBerry is yesterday’s mobile messenger, way past its prime and heading toward retirement. The iPhone is light-years ahead of the BlackBerry on almost every count. RIM should be ashamed.” I would agree if the BlackBerry Bold didn’t have a much better battery life, better email client and setup, better calendar, better data input, better call quality, better speakerphone and a few other features which make the iPhone feel like a toy at times. The iPhone is of course way ahead in terms of usablilty, but this type of journalism annoys me greatly. The writer should be ashamed of penning such complete nonsense.
AAS is reporting on a number of software updates for the Nokia N97 which include improvements to Ovi Maps 3.1, N-Gage 1.3, Nokia Messaging 10.0, Ovi Contacts 1.20, and a small helper application for freeing space on the N97′s internal C: drive.
Google Voice has been released for Android and BlackBerry. You can use the app to make outgoing SMS messages and calls from your Google Voice number. What’s more, this app improves the mobile experience of Google Voice in a number of ways
On the subject of Android, Borqs has managed to secure $17.4 million of funding for future Android development. That’s a big number and suggests that there are lots of people expecting big things from Google, HTC and Android. I need to work on securing only $1.74 million for news development on 247…:)
That’s your lot for tonight. See you all, or some of you, tomorrow.
