Sprint now selling the Palm Pre online

rebateSprint is finally selling the Palm Pre online. Being from the UK I do struggle with all the savings and rebates which are attached to any price, but I guess the final total is $199.99 + contract.

“It’s here, and you can only get it from Sprint. The gorgeous 3.1” touchscreen lets you move seamlessly between open applications – email, maps, photos, websites and so much more. The slide-out QWERTY keyboard lets you be a texting machine, and the smooth, rounded design feels natural in your hand and comfortably small in your pocket.

The Palm Pre was the big winner at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, taking home both the Best in Show and the People’s Voice Award. Now it’s your turn to see what all the fuss is about.”

    I’m sorry – it’s $549 WITH a 2 year contract?!

I’ve been arguing with the team about whether they’d succeed in the UK – particularly when they’ve gone with O2.
I can’t see how, when an 18 month contract gets you a free iphone. Even being very generous with exchange rates and halving the amount (when we all know it’s much closer to $-£), we’re still at the very least surely talking £100 with an 18 month contract after all those rebates?! Or am i missing something?
And I don’t know about others, but I don’t read a £200 product with a £100 mail in rebate, as a £100 product. My mind doesn’t work that way, as I still have to cough up £200 (And hope I’m eligible for the rebate t&c).

    Oh well, will be interesting…

I used to live in the US and these rebates are very common. You are definitely eligible but I guess they just hope some people don’t claim. From experience it also takes months for your rebate to cone back. Other than helping cash flow I never really understood this US obsession with mail in rebates. However I took advantage regularly and would but say blank DVDs for $20 with a $20 rebate and so only pay the sakes tax. Odd indeed.

But back to the point, it looks like a Pre for at least £100 18 months which might be a real stretch. Can you say flop?
