News round-up: 1st August 2009
RIM has made available BlackBerry App World 1.1 which offers the ability to archive an app to an expansion card for re-installing again. You still cannot install directly to an expansion card, but it is a good start. In fact, you can use Aerize Card Loader 2008 to install to memory card which is always the first app I install on any BlackBerry device.
iPhone OS 3.0.1 has been released and fixes the SMS security flaw which has been well reported so far. It can be installed as per the normal route via iTunes.
An unofficial Google voice client has surfaced for the Palm Pre. It is under development and bug-ridden, but a promising start for those who want to jump in early.
A couple of Microsoft executives have made noises concerning Windows Mobile and the position it finds itself in at the moment. Comments like “It was a tough year on succeeding with phones. Mostly our own issues frankly.” say a lot. More at coolsmartphone.
Nokia users can now get QuickOffice 6 for free. Symbian Guru has all of the details, but everything I hear in this article is positive and a very good move, especially from Nokia if it did pay for the privilege.
Rumours are starting to emerge that iriver is considering the development of an iPod Touch competitior which will run Android. It’s a nice idea, but is it a decent business move?
