QOTD: Children and smartphones?

qotd22Do you ever let your children play with your smartphone? I used to be very precious with mine, but my son and daughter often play a game or two on my iPhone. I almost wish they would break it some days to give me an excuse to upgrade…

This used to happen to me all the time, until I upgraded to the 3GS. My nine year-old daughter now plays with my old iPhone 3G, which has effectively become an iPod Touch for her. And my son, 17, has his own 3G… Facebook is his thing.

Many years ago I gave my brother a SE P910 with a chess game on it. My nephew learnt chess from this and now is a school and county campion (in his age group)! My daughter only uses my/wife’s Smartphones to look at pictures. But when waiting some times she also likes to watch Youtube on my Nokia E90. I tried to buy my daughter a Smartphone but her main criteria was that her phone had to be purple!

My kids can use my iPod Touch as if anything happened to it, it is easily replaceable without effecting my phone!

I don’t have any games on mine, and I’m just too protective, I can’t just get a new one tomorrow!

They use my wives, who treats her phones like sh*t, and wonders why they start doing funny things after a short time (it’s inexplicable screen flickering this time round!)

I need to set up my old phone for them though, which had a few good games on it!

hell no… He is only 17 months and has put both my sister and her husband’s phones in glasses of water.. LMAO..

Christie does let him play with her SGH-i780, but it couldn’t be in any worse a state really ;-)

There’s nothing like an iPhone to keep a kid happy while you’re sitting watching a sibling’s class. I have three kids, so sometimes I bring the iPod touch to occupy two at a time. They do argue who gets which, tho–the touch has no sound (1st gen).

Peggle got me through swim lessons this summer and my 2-1/2 y/o loves all the abc match type games or looking at the family pictures. When their grandma saw the baby swiping away, she figured if the baby could figure it out, she could, so she got herself an iPhone.

Only thing I’d change tho–how apps are deleted. My youngest holds down the icons too long and then taps the x. Once that’s done, there’s no going back. Yeah, I can reload the app, but deleting it loses all its data and settings…. So she uses the touch more now. :)

I let my sons play supervised on my iPhone, some games for the eldest and the youngest just likes looking at the picture of him and his brother as wallpaper! My youngest did manage to call my brother in law overseas on my hubbys e90 the other day. Thankfully we noticed very quickly or that could have been expensive!

    @ gavinfabl
I’m just glad none of them read this sight and find out about each other!
