The Android app market is growing at a very fast rate and the latest guestimate is that there are over 10,000 apps available. 64% are free and with so many devices coming out over the next few months we can expect this number to grow significantly. Thanks to Gavin.
From MobileCrunch- “In the mobile OS world, Google’s Android is still a challenger but with the amount of devices that will be running the system that are due to come out in the coming months alone in combination with its open approach it is definitely a contestant to watch closely. The success of Apple’s App Store for the iPhone / iPod Touch is often measured by how many apps have already been developed for the platform (around 70,000), but since Google doesn’t disclose exactly how many apps are available through Android Market it was difficult to compare the two on that particular level.
But thanks to AndroLib, which provides a useful website where you can browse Android apps from your computer (unlike the Android Market website), we can conclude that there are currently at least 10,000 applications and games available on the platform today…”

Hmmm… I bet if estimates of, say, 950 Android apps started to be repeated, they’d jump up real quick and tell us real number!
Not sure where you are coming from but on my rss feeds I get notified of between 20-40 new android apps every hour. Check out http://www.androlib.com . Android if they are not careful will have similar issues as Apple does now. Also paid apps is fairly new but at least good titles are now available eg Sims 3 or Spotify.
