iPhone car kits: another on the way, TomTom’s delayed

nckThe iPhone TomTom kit has been delayed until October. Kevin Carter from TomTom said “I can confirm that we have decided to take some extra weeks in order to deliver the highest quality on this innovative product.” Some other sites have speculated that the TomTom software issues on the iPhone are down to settings which mean the software uses the car kit rather than the built in GPS antenna, that’s the car kit which is not available until October now. Hmmm…

On the subject of iPhone car kits,  Navigon is going to get in on the act with a kit of its own. More details are at this Facebook page. “NAVIGON is launching a car kit for the iPhone including a car holder and charger cable to make an ideal positioning for adequate navigation possible.” This looks as though no GPS performance enhancement is included which is a shame. The more I use the iPhone for navigation, the more I realise that it is not as strong as most other smartphones in this area…
