ThemeArt for Windows Mobile Review

ta1Themes have long been a part of the Windows Mobile setup and still today you can download thousands of free and paid for products which make your device look a little different. The problem has always been that you have had to stick with the look of the theme in place and have had no option to change it on the go. ThemeArt changes that and allows you to make changes to themes whenever you like and wherever you are.

You can change almost every aspect of a theme from the today background through to text colours and critical messages. It is tempting once you start to fiddle with everything, and I did find myself tweaking and changing colours for quite some time on my first go. My wife is the Windows Mobile user in our house and now seems to spend more time playing with themes than doing other stuff these days…

I tested a few themes and all were editable. Even the built in themes can be tweaked as much as you like and it strangely becomes addictive when you have a few minutes to spare. Having the ability to tweak makes you not want to stop and the only danger is that you will never find the ideal theme for you because you can easily change them, over and over again.

You can preview your changed themes and the user interface is as intuitive as you could wish for. It takes no time at all to understand how to use it and at under 400k will not slow your device down at all. It is not easy to write a lot about ThemeArt because it does exactly what it is supposed to and is almost unexciting in the way it works. I mean ‘unexciting’ in a good way though. When an application installs and just works you know you are onto a winner. It does not have fancy animations or lots of hidden settings- just the ones you need presented in a logical fashion.

Windows Mobile has had a hard time of late, but products like ThemeArt show that there is lots of life left in this mobile OS and I can heartily recommend this app for anyone who likes to play around with their device and customise it for their own personal preferences.

Available from ArtelPlus for $14.95.
