I’m not sure if people hold on to their phones long enough for the wear and tear of daily charging to matter much.

The environment may not be all too pleased about it though!

4 or 5 years ago we didn’t have The breadth of functionality and connectivity we do now. I was using a Samsung mobile then that would last a week. But I wouldn’t have wanted to respond to this post as I’m doing now on it’s tiny screen with numerical keypad (and at the data rates we had then!!!)

I think this shows that people’s minimums are decided by what they do now. I can’t imagine charging my main phone each day because I don’t have to and go for a couple of days before I remember to charge. The thought of charging each days suddenly feels odd, and I do wonder if more charging means the battery will fail earlier. That’s OK if you can replace it easily of course…

Well, since I work at a desk I charge my Clié PDA (Palm and my HTC during work time . During weekends I don’t use enough the devices to drain the battery to critical levels, so I’m fine with charging.

I must say that the Clié’s battery still lasts a lot if compared to the HTC, but then again… the HTC is always connected. It’s just like Statto says.

Although you’d think that a day really ought to be the minimum, I’ve had to buy an extra battery from my Treo 680 as it sometimes gets a real hammering and runs out mid-afternoon. So, from my point of view, about half a day is the minimum as long as the device has a replaceable battery.

I’m happy with a day of full on use. But if I have to start watching what i’m doing during the day it would bother me.

I am also in the habit of charging nightly.

Overnight charging is perfectly reasonable and easy to do. It has become a habit for me, whichever device I am using.

I’m actually tremendouly impressed by the battery life on my 3GS, particularly when I compare it to something like a Compaq iPaq – which could barely last a day, despite having a smaller and poorer screen and no connectivity to speak of.

If it can last a day and a half, I’m satisfied. But like most of you mentioned, I make it a habit to charge overnight. Not only will this make sure you have enough juice to last the day, but it’ll prolong your battery life. Lithium-ions don’t like to be fully discharged between cycles..

Same as Phillipa, although my work Blackberry can last 4 days minimum and its pounded. That is handy.

As long as it will last a day and a half that’s fine, because I usually charge overnight. If I forget or have a late night, it’ll still survive until I get to a plug.
Mind you, I would love to have a device with the battery life of 5 years ago, several days between charges was wonderful.

Why should 2 days be a minimum? We all sleep every night. Just charge the thing then. I do and have no worries about that. It’s as routine as brushing my teeth before I go to bed.

Want big bright screens with lots of connectivity?Something has to give. Might improve with time but for now I’m happy with a daily charge.

I’ve no problem with daily charging. I sleep to re-energise. My phone can do the same but it must last a whole day of heavy use.

If I can take it off the cradle at work on Friday afternoon and last until sunday night (or better yet Monday morning) then its enough..
