What was the last piece of mobile software to make you sit up and think ‘wow!’? I think the last was Real Racing on the iPhone for me, but Arcade Reality on the Palm Treo was a revelation as well at the time.

It takes a lot for me to say “wow!” for a mobile application these days.
Two apps do come to mind though.
iMapMyRun on the iphone for tracking and logging my runs
but also soemthing I rarely use but amazes me everytime I do.
Shazam. Play a small piece of music and it identifies the artist etc.
I find that quite amazing.

Had a “Wow!” moment this morning when I downloaded and installed “TabToolkit” from the App Store. It’s a fantastic app for guitar players, allowing you to download and view “tab” music files. You can play along with notation and tab as it scrolls across the screen while being kept on beat with a metronome; there’s also a guitar fretboard at the bottom of the screen to help you with tricky fingerings. A built-in web browser allows you to search the internet for files and download them directly to the app, or you can side-load them over wifi.
I have to say, I’m completely “wowed” by the wealth of tools available for musicians in the App Store – have also just downloaded “iRealBook” (lead sheets for over 700 jazz standards), and “Amazing Slow Downer”, an app for slowing down fast passages of music to make transcription easier.
