MemoryFlash for BlackBerry

10 November 2009 by Shaun No Comment

MemoryFlash for BlackBerry could be useful for those of you with limited memory BlackBerry’s. It appears to be a little manual in operation, but could solve some ongoing issues.

“1. The One-Touch “Memory Flash” icon requests immediate garbage collection. Tap the icon just before starting something that you don’t want to be slowed or interrupted by garbage collection. Automatic garbage collection will still happen sooner or later, but triggering it now will give you the maximum time without being slowed or interrupted.

2. The phone tries to clean itself up when you’re not even looking at it, instead of the need arising when you’re busy. The need will still arise at times when you’re busy, but when you pick the phone up after it had timed out it should be ready to go as long as possible before the next time garbage collection slows or interrupts you.

Some apps can continue to use resources and then leave them waiting to be reclaimed even when the backlight is off, so MemoryFlash can optionally do an additional check at light-up to further ensure that you will have as long as possible before the next garbage collection is necessary.

3. The included flashlight is a one-touch shortcut to the video recorder app (the only way to turn on the very-bright video light), and keeps the light on until you turn it off — if you just run the video recorder alone, the light turns off after a brief period unless you’re recording.

If you don’t want the flashlight feature or cannot use it, you can delete that module (VideoFlashlight) without affecting the main functions of MemoryFlash. Or, you can just hide the Video Flashlight icon — the app takes only about 7k of space.”
