Palm still garners lots of commentary on the web and this week the full spectrum of emotions came to light on 247. I personally think that OS is a good OS, but that the hardware lets it down somewhat. I am also not convinced that it is as functional as BlackBerry or as entertaining as Android. I have had a review unit for 2 weeks and have so far not managed to build up the motivation to review it…
Peter: Not used Android surprisingly. However, I do think WebOS is very good, much better for me than WinMob. Also using my Pre over the iPhone, but there’s a size element to that too.
PreKing: Web OS is great. I have not had a crash yet on the Pre and despite glaring lack of apps for Euro users I have still found 6/7 free apps that are frankly astonishingly good. I love it….
Lazyboy: I really want Palm to survive and to bring out some compelling devices, but I really don’t think the company has done enough yet. Yes, there is a certain elegance about some aspects of WebOS, but, as I’ve said before, it falls short as a full on enterprise device and is laughable as an all-round, consumer-orientated entertainment device. There are just too many gaps in Palm’s offering for the company to be anything other than a niche/second tier player at the moment. Unfortunately for Palm, Android is currently getting all the nerd love; RIM has set up permanent camp in the enterprise; Apple is still on a roll; and it is only a matter of time before Microsoft gets its act together. That’s a tough environment for Palm to thrive in, but I hope it makes it.

Odd that, the two people who have a Pre and who use it like it, the other two folk who have barely used it don’t rate it…..I don’t have a Motorola Droid but I just know it’s rubbish.
I love my Pre….easily the best smartphone I have used in the last couple years. I cant wait for the follow up to the Pre!!!
