QOTD: Smartphone cost?

qotd27What is the most you would pay for a smartphone? I suspect that many of you will say a lot and I probably fall into that category. If the functions are right and I perceive it to be good value, the sky is the limit. OK, £500 as a maximum for me, but it needs to be very good.

Actually I’ve not seen anything around the 500+ mark (sim free) where I’ve honestly thought it was worth the money for a while. Pretty much any device up to 350-400 has all the features I’d want but even then it’s starting to feel over priced. Perhaps it’s because I’ve bought my last two phones with contract so the cost is largely hidden, but I do feel the prices should be coming down.

I used to be willing to spend more, but now I have a family and too many other costs I can’t quite justify it anymore. I now get my phones on a contract. This does limit what I can get though, since the latest and greatest isn’t always available.

I’m happy to pay about £35 per month for contract phone, 200mins and “unlimited” data over 18 months. I wouldn’t want to go much beyond that.

If I am buying outright, £400 is probably the most I’d be prepared to stump up.

I’m probably similar to Andrew’s thoughts

Probably about 500 sim free provided I could spend the same on something the family wants ha ha. Although the last one bought was an e63 at 170 quid.

£200 max, normally I keep upgrading so the buy and sell keeps costs down. My future budgets will be a lot lower.

Like vboelema I have a family and lots of other costs so there’s not much money for smartphones these days. My days of spending £300 on a whim are over, at least for now. My Nokia 5800 was free on contract and my Centro was £80 from eBay but I still manage to have a lot of use and enjoyment from them.
