Well since you bought it up – the communicator is what all this madness is all about! It is the thing we all want. Consider this – the Star Trek PAD IS the next step?? Coincidence? I think not! Life as we want to know it IS STAR TREK!

What I like about flip phones is that your screen is protected, and the wee screen on the outside is useful for seeing the time and date at a glance and to see who’s calling.

Never had a flip phone myself (Sliding keyboard ones yes)

No idea why, I just have some aversion to them :/

I thought about the swivel thing, but I wonder if that would add complexity.

I can’t see why a flip is much different to a qwerty slider like the Pre. You could actually have a much bigger keyboard. Lanscape viewing is a problem, how about a swiveling flip?

I agree it works in a film and in real life- the satisfying click of closing the phone to end the call.

Still not convinced that a flip phone can be practical for the things smartphones do today- GPS, watching movies, playing games etc. It seems to be touch screen or hardware QWERTY and the flip form factor suits neither.
