Flip phones are back in town

A while back David wrote this article on 247 about the need for a decent flip smartphone. Well, it seems as though his wish may be coming true.

The BlackBerry 9670 Clamshell has been spotted on video and should be launched in quarter 3 running BlackBerry OS 6.0.

On top of that a picture of a new clamshell Motorola device has been found. The MT810 runs Android and seems to have 2 screens, one for input. I must say that both look quite difficult to use to me.

Shaun. Not totally on-topic but I am half thinking of getting a Blackberry when OS 6 comes out. (Only half: still got a brand new Treo 680 sitting in a box in my study) Apart from some time spent playing with my daughter’s Curve 8900 I have little experience of Blackberry. What do you consider the main shortcomings of the current BB OS? Do you think OS 6 will remedy them?

I don’t think the BB OS of now has any major shortcomings- it is very quick, very stable and just does the job. RIM does need to work on the entertainment side though and the way developers can build apps (very few good ones available). I hope BB OS6 addresses this, but from what I have seen I was hoping for more. Proof is in the pudding though I guess.

Thanks. I’m not in a rush. I shall await a comprehensive review from you once it’s released, assuming you get an OS6 device. :-)
