Sid has sent in details of Calibre which is an eBook management tool that can be used to sync eBooks to devices, convert eBooks into a variety of formats (i.e. iPub for iPhone and iPad) and is also a comprehensive eBook viewer. Can’t argue with that for free.

Anyone interested in the details of calibre or encountering problems with it will find loads of information in the special subforum for calibre over at http://www.mobileread.com:

The mind behind the programm, kovidgoyal, is an active member there and very open to any feedback.
Calibre is brilliant. When I first bought my Sony Reader there was no Sony software for Mac. Calibre has since become my ebook companion which I use to transfer all my books from my Macbook to my Reader. It’s easy to use, and as Peter says, the developer gives excellent feedback via the Mobileread forum!
I have been using Calibre for quite a while now, and I wouldn’t be able to use my eBook reader as effectively without this tool. The ePub format has been the answer to all my formatting issues.
Not too mention that just recently, the book management interface got a good upgrade.
Within a few days of use, I didn’t hesitate in “buying” a copy.
