A day in the life… again

Every two years or so I seem to end up writing an article about how I use my smartphone during a normal day and this was something that seemed too unoriginal to repeat. Then I had a day last week that made me realise just how far things have moved in the past 24 months and so I thought I would bore you with another one-

6am: iPhone alarm wakes me up.

7am: TomTom fired up, HD traffic activated and the 2 hour journey to a meeting starts. Music could be played via my car radio from the iPhone, but I need to work on a charging solution to allow both at the same time.

8:50am Arrive at meeting and check emails to see if anything needs attention.

10am: The meeting is really interesting, so interesting that I have a quick scroll through Twitter to see what is happening outside of my little world. I also quickly check the news, a couple of blogs and continue three ‘Words With Friends’ games. Really interesting meeting…

12am: Lunchtime. A quick check of my emails, more news and 10 minutes to read a couple of eBooks pages.

12:30am: Back to meeting until 4pm.

4pm: Drive home once again with TomTom and HD Traffic- managed to avoid a problem on the M25 and arrived home at 6:30pm.

7pm: Kids are bored so I let them watch The Incredible Journey on my iPhone attached to the TV. They also play with YouTube for a while, also via the TV.

9pm: Updating 247 with music playing from the iPhone in my ears. Some news ideas and QOTDs taken from the iPhone- these were written during the really exciting meeting I mentioned earlier.

11pm: Time for bed- a quick skim through some favourite websites, a quick play of WordPop! and another chapter of my current eBook read before it all starts again tomorrow.

This is a relatively normal day for me and the weekends will vary with more photo and video capture, but there is little doubt that without my smartphone I would be lost. Too many things can be accomplished with it and it reaffirms to me that I really do not need an iPad style device.

So, what is your smartphones average day like? Let us know…

09:30 Alarm goes off, class is finished.
09:50 Have made my way to the school where I work. Classes with children now begin.

22:00 My final alarm tells me the last class is finished and that I can head home.

Miscellaneous: I check and update my agenda and task at various times during the course of the day. I make a few calls and texts. I use my Spanish-English dictionary during classes when needed. I also refer to various docs when needed… and I keep a shopping list!

    * I now use my iPod nano with my new (and awesome) noise cancelling headphones for music.
    * I Have started using my netbook for all Internet, in-class assessment and ebook reading.
    * I use my digital camera for photos.

My phone really has taken a backseat in recent months!

    Damn
My use is pretty miserable by comparison to you lot!

Wake at 6.30 by alarm (wife getting out of bed)
7.00am Check overnight tweets (Twitterlator Pro), emails and RSS feeds (iNews).

Also check weather on 3 separate apps as they’re always different, sometimes remarkable so (!) WeatherPro, Pocket Weather and MetOffice

8:30 in work – check to do’s on Carbon Fin Outliner (where is Bonsai for iPhone!!)

Periodically through morning sneak look at emails, Twitter. Usually in summer make a few calls sends loads of texts about stuff to do with cricket club. Use Appigo Notebook and Awsomenote to make various notes (Can’t make my mind up between the two)

Always using eWallets to check passwords to various websites (don’t store them on work PC!!!!)

Occasionally use Dropbox app to check a ref document, but more likely to do that on PC

Lunch – emails, Twitter & RSS feeds again, maybe occasionally a game (Virtual Pool)

    Afternoon more of the same

Evening same stuff again – occasionally check bank account stuff using my bank’s App.

If I’m out and about, travelling with work (rarely) or to cricket matches etc use CoPilot Live
