Mobile TV would be good if what was on TV now days was any good! On Sky (UK) wee have access to so many channels but I still only watch only a limited amount of TV as I am not very keen on cheap reality TV. When away from home I watch Youtube. There are a number of projects that I keep my self updated on by catching-up on regular Youtube videos/interviews etc. Also mobile support for Youtube seems very good (on most platforms).
I watch TV when I want to. As you say it needs to fit in with the person and live TV is too random to do that on a phone.
Well, not if it would depend on me as a user. I personally simply don’t need it.
If I’m out and about then I’ll usually have my own video to watch on my mobile device. I don’t even listen to that much radio anymore, it’s so much more convenient to have something I actually want to listen to or watch. I think there’s a question about how long it will be until most of our watching is on demand in any case. Obviously news and sports are best live, but since we got our V+ box pretty much all our viewing is delayed and at our convenience. If I had a reliable connection to iPlayer on the train I would be very interested, but Jeremy Kyle on the way to work just no!
Two comments:
First, watching something (video, TV, movie, whatever) in concept is similar to reading. You need your eyes and therefore probably can’t do anything else. So it’s an activity that requires most if not all of your attention. However, there are lots of places where that is available. On a bus, passenger in a car, on a plane, waiting at the doctor’s office etc.
Second, the usual complaint is screen size. A few years ago I saw an article about a set of glasses that let the viewer watch video as if it was on a 19″ screen a few feet away from the eyes. Effectively a large wide screen TV. If that were made wireless and compact, it would be easy to pop the glasses on, put the earbuds in, and enjoy the latest episode of the 20th (
) Doctor Who.
Not saying that it will happen, but it’s certainly possible and reasonable.

I don’t watch much TV as it is… maybe I would if I had mobile TV!
It won’t take off because the TV generation (genX-ers and early genY-ers) don’t think of watching TV as an activity outside of the home. The latter genY-ers and genZ-ers will be to busy with social networking – texting, etc. to be bothered watching TV.
Fail.
