QOTD: Where did you buy your current smartphone?

Simple question today. Who did you buy your current smartphone from? I bit the bullet and got my iPhone in an upgrade which is unusual because I tend to buy smartphones unlocked out of contract. Also, what did you buy?

My iPhone was from o2. I’ve not bought an unlocked phone in ages. I think I’m getting old as I just don’t get excited by the new releases anymore!

An HTC Hero from Cash Converters in Stirling. first time I’ve bought a second hand phone in a long time.

Bought my Hero from T-mobile. As I don’t make many many calls I always go for cheap contracts. At the time Heroes cost about £350 unlocked. Mine cost £126 with a £10 pcm T-mob contract. This works out at about the same as unlocked but I get 100 mins, 100 texts and 3gb of data with that. Much better value for me. If I wanted a more expensive contract I might consider an unlocked phone.

friend of a friend or ebay – I rely on early adopters who upgrade every 6 months to provide a subsidised source of unlocked phones. By not buying something the minute it comes out I avoid the teething problems and get to find out whether a phone is actually any good. I also look at ebay prices over a period of time and the number of nearly new devices sold as this gives an indication of customer satisfaction.

for example, I avoided buying an nokia n96 which initially appeared to be a very promising device and turned out to be flawed – lots were sold nearly new on ebay quite heavily discounted – cheaper than the n95-8GB for a while – which was a clear sign of people getting rid quick!

16GB iPhone 4 from O2 on monthly contract. I was out of contract. Thought about the HTC Desire, but liked my iP3G so much it was really a no brainer
