Pocket Informant for Android public beta

A public beta version of Android has been posted in the Android Market and looks to extend the reach of a PIM app that some love and others think is too complicated. I am somewhere in the middle as far as the iPhone version goes.

Pocket Informant PUBLIC BETA is a fully redesigned from the ground up calendaring and GTD®-based tasks solution for Android Devices. Our purpose is to integrate best-of-class calendaring with best-of-class tasks together into one great solution. Beta Expires January 24th, 2011.

It’s been a great week for Android apps. First we had Winamp beta which has a lovely, intuitive interface. Then an updated version of Docs-to-Go came along with some great new feature: cloud sync with Google docs and pinch & zoom in the PDF reader. Now Pocket Informant.

I have given it a spin and it looks really good. I have been waiting eagerly for something to replace DateBk and the awful Android PIMs. This really looks like it fits the bill. Even though it is only a beta it has nearly all the features which I am looking for. Coupled with an app called Calendar Snooze, which gives Datebk like control of the notification system, I am nearly ready to relinquish my Palm.

If the Motorola Droid Pro isn’t a lemon then I could soon have my dream device: a Treo type QWERTY keyboard and a largish screen. The best of both worlds :-)

PI on the iPhone is a mix of good and bad. The Calendar stuff is good but the Tasks part looks like it was thrown in as an after thought with badly aligned text and a distinctly low rent look about it. I soon dumped it and went back to Calvetica with ToDo

I’m not familiar with PI on the Iphone. On Android Tasks seem to be very well implemented. It syncs with Toodledo with full support for Folders and Contexts. Also you can enable GTD features.

PI on the iPad is very good. On Anroid it’s also looking good given the screen size and touch foot print.

Graham, I also struggled with a decent todo app on Android and that was the main reason I went back to the iPhone from my Legend…that and the poor on screen keyboard. Glad that PI on Android sounds like it will solve your problem.
