QOTD: Stealing from another OS?

What one feature would you steal from another mobile operating system and put on your current phone? I would go for the notifications system in webOS or Android and stick it on iOS.

Efficiency and good BT support from Symbian to Android.

Same as you Shaun. It’s probably the main reason I have not bought an iPhone.

I was thinking about notifications, but then I think iPhone already has that nearly done the best. Apps have the options of badges, notifications etc so for example the Paypal app has notifications enabled. LAst night it flashes message on screen to say I have received £x . CNN displays breaking news on screen etc.

I agree with you, Gavin. The notifications on iOS are fine, particularly the icon badges which persist after the initial notification. One glance at my homescreen and I can see how many emails, text messages, missed calls/voicemails, app updates, task reminders, and financial alerts I have. I’m not sure why I would need a special “notifications panel” to see the info that is already right there in front of me.

Getting back to the original question, I do really like the swirly animations in Windows Phone 7 when you tap on the home screen. I suspect they might bug me after a while.

iOS notifications for me too. I like the fact there is no LED flashing but I would swap for the Android style tomorrow.

I would stick iOS on my Galaxy – lol! I’m sick of the slow downs and the way retrieving email or using the Facebook app just crawls along at a slugs pace. I used to be able to get my email faster with my Psion 5mx using my mobile or the infrared modem which was dial up! Even my Palm connected via bluetooth with my mobile using Snappermail seemed to just get my email in a flash. What the hell is this 1Ghz processor doing?!

  8. Graham says:

That’s strange vboelema. Is it just those apps which are running slow or is it the whole system? Can you browse the internet ok?

  9. vboelema says:

I now prefer using full Facebook with the browser since the Facebook app is tediously slow. The Yahoo mail app would just go black for ages for no apparent reason. It’s a bummer, because I do like the way it shows you your whole Yahoo mail. From time to time typing on the keyboard just kinda freezes up for a while. Browsing is generally fine depending on my coverage of course. I did turn it on and off yesterday which seems to have helped a bit.

It bothered me when my friends flying along with his Facebook app, while I’m watching a spinning wheel type thing – lol!

Strange. Something’s not right. My Hero flys and it’s got a much slower processor. Sounds like something is hogging the cpu. Might be worth doing a hard reset and reinstalling everything.

  11. vboelema says:

You’re probably right Graham… Maybe if it rains this weekend I’ll have a few spare hours on my hands. Hard resets tend to involve a lot of work setting up again after.

    Update: Graham.
Couldn’t get idea of a fresh start out of my head. Purchased my first app for Android – “My backup Pro” factory reset my Galaxy and restored my data and the apps I actually use. So far things seem to work more smoothly.
    :-)

Glad it seems to be ok. Hope it continues that way.
