Today’s comment of the day comes from Shofar regarding online advertising- “In all the years I have been using Google on my PC and now phone I would say I have checked ads less then 10 times IN TOTAL – years worth of use.Google will not be getting rich on me, though I think they are entitled to some payback for the services they give us.”
Interesting point and it is one I agree with- when I consider how many Google services I use, I have no problem with some form of payback for what I get.

Agreed – google offers a lot for free. Advertising is a big income stream fro them but a small fee for some of their services I would happily pay for – but lets hope they keep them free?!
I’d rather pay for the apps I use than click on the advertising.
Don’t forget that for a lot of the big companies, they pay for the impressions, not necessarily the clicks. Anyone running a small business (like I do) can tell you that, because it’s next to impossible for us to get any decent placement on a pay-per-click basis.
I’ve always been astounded that a company as rich as Google with it’s crazy stock price gets all that money from those goofy little text ads that I never pay attention to. Obviously, SOMETHING is working right in this model for them.
I personally have never clicked a Google ad, ever. However it has to be known that simply using Google’s search is making them rich. You dont need to click on these adds to help Google’s pockets. “Google will not be getting rich on me”, oh yes, yes they will indeed.
I’ve noticed lately that when you get search results, the box at the top of the results with “Sponsored” results seems a lot lighter in colour and it’s a lot less obvious that they’re not natural search results. Presumably this is to get a few more people to click them even if it’s not what they need!
