Top secret Apple document confirms iPhone 5, iPad 2

How would you like to see details for all of Apple’s 2011 releases? In my possession is an opportunistic photo of a fax to Steve Jobs which contains the final design elements for almost all of Apple’s pending product line-up.  Risking his career, the photographer managed to get this quick snap before it was whisked away to Steve’s in-tray.  I don’t expect it will remain live for long – so check it out while you can.

There are few companies more secretive than Apple.  Senior employees have been let go for inadvertently betraying the smallest details of unannounced products in the tech media.  That’s why my insider source for this incredible leak has chosen to remain incognito – I don’t even know the whistleblower’s name myself.  We spoke just once, but the source chose to disguise their voice with intense electronic signal processing, masking all trace of accent, inflection and even gender.  In other words, he called me from his iPhone.  I’m convinced that he’s the real deal, and the checks I’ve made with my other Apple connections have corroborated the details in the fax.

The document is the work of Apple’s superstar design-chief Jonny Ive and clearly bears all the hallmarks of his past designs.  It’s an electrifying glimpse into what the next year will bring from the tech world’s most famous brand.

Who won the Touch Diamond?

tdWe recently ran a competition in which you had to give us your best definition of a smartphone, an object which no-one seems to be able to define. I went through the list multiple times and finally decided that Bill G came up with the simplest description of what a smartphone should be. His entry is below and the Touch Diamond is on the way to him in the US (I wish you lot would live nearer to save postal costs:))

“A smartphone is an internet capable mobile device capable of running multiple applications in a true operating system environment. It allows the user to customize the interface, install additional applications and to create a personal mobile environment for their needs.”

A big thanks must go to Peter who donated the Diamond for the competition.

What exactly is a smartphone? Tell us and win a Touch Diamond!

tdNo one seems to know exactly what a smartphone is. The dictionary definition is “a mobile telephone with extended features as a personal digital assistant, Internet browser, etc.”, but that could now apply to almost all mobile phones so that idea is out.

This is your chance to define what a smartphone is in under 50 words and the best answer will win a near perfect condition HTC Touch Diamond. It is not the newest of smartphones, but it is a good one and thanks go to Peter for donating it.

Just post your answers by replying to this topic and the closing date for entries is midnight (UK time) on 22nd January. Good luck and the winner will be announced on 25th January.

PDA-247 renaming competition winner announced

pda247The winner of the competition to rename PDA-247 is Jennifer who came up with www.allmobileos.com. I have decided to ditch the ‘247’ part and will make the change in the near future. Some of the names were truly excellent, but sadly a lot were already taken so the entries could not be counted.

Jennifer, I have emailed you so if you can respond we will sort out your prize with Clove. Thanks to all of you who took the time to come up with ideas- look out for a new competition very soon.
