KIN RIP
There are some strange people in the world and one of them has set up a memorial site for the Microsoft KIN. It gets even more bizarre when you visit it because ‘Gone Too Soon’ by Michael Jackson starts playing. All very odd, but feel free to add your message if you are so inclined.

Microsoft KIN: bye bye
Steve Ballmer continues to preside over a company that appears to be going anywhere, but forwards. The news that the KIN line is being ceased so soon after birth is still a shock even though the phones were not exactly good.
From The Guardian- “Microsoft has taken the Kin – a shell-shaped mobile that emerged from its purchase of the Danger brand – out to the back and shot it.
Slow sales in the US mean that it’s not going to be released in Europe (sorry, Windows Mobile fans) and that instead Microsoft is going to focus on Windows Phone 7, its upcoming revision to its entire mobile operating system.
In a statement to CNet News, which got the story first, Microsoft said “We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned… Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.”
Microsoft KIN prices reduced
The KINs are now following the Palm smartphones and seeing their prices reduced significantly. I do wonder if this will become a trend and if it could result in people waiting some time when new devices are released. That does not lend itself to seeing huge early adopter sales and can also give the impression that the device is not selling as expected. Maybe Palm (HP), Microsoft and the others need to be as tough with the networks regarding pricing as Apple is.
From WMPoweruser- “The biggest hurdle the KIN One ad Two face is price, so the news that BestBuy is now discounting the social networking handsets to free from the $50 KIN One and $50 for the previously $100 KIN Two is welcome news.
Unfortunately it does not address the main bugabear, the monthly recurring contract fee, which features a mandatory $29.99 data plan.”

Microsoft KIN ONE for Verizon video tour
The Microsoft KINs have had some bad press recently, especially from engadget, and now Mobile Burn has posted an unboxing and quick tour video of the KIN ONE. The packaging is unique and I am quite impressed with it. Suspect the phone is a different matter though…

Microsoft launches Kin YouTube Channel
Microsoft has launched a new Kin YouTube channel which offers a selection of demonstration and promotional videos. I have to say that something in the back of my mind is expecting Kin to be a ‘big’ hit.

Microsoft Kin: at least it’s not Windows Mobile
engadget has made a new video mocking the Microsoft Kin adverts and it is quite amusing. I have to say though that Kin could be a huge success, and MCT asks, Will Kin Be The Blackberry Of Social Networking? Quite possibly…
