9th Birthday competition winners…
Deciding the 9th Birthday competition winners has been incredibly difficult and so far I have only managed to choose the main winners. I will list all of the winners tomorrow, but in the meantime here are the main winners and why they won-
The first prize was £400, but I struggled to pick a winner who did enough over everyone else to take home the full amount. In the end I decided to spit it three ways and increase the prize fund.
Peter takes home £150 plus a case from Piel Frama, a case from PDair and 2 ultra clear screen protectors from Brando. His entries are here, here, here, here and here. There may be more, but the volume and quality of his work has been amazing over the past few weeks and he deserves multiple prizes.
Kelvin also takes home £150 plus a case from PDair and 2 screen protectors from Brando. His entries are here and here. The volume may not be so high, but the quality is again excellent.
Janine also takes home £150 for 2 articles that will be published later this week. They came in over the weekend and it would be fair to say that Janine does not pull her punches in her views on women and smartphones and the subject of trolls.
Bob takes home the £50 voucher from Clove plus a case from Piel Frama, a case from PDair and 2 ultra clear screen protectors from Brando. His entries are here, here and here. Bob has consistently helped out over the past few months and the quality keeps on rolling in.
Come back tomorrow for the full list of winners. THANKS to all of you who took the time to enter the competition and for all of the great content. The past two weeks have been much easier for me thanks to you all:)

The 9th Birthday competition winners will be announced on 247 tomorrow morning. I have some serious thinking to do tonight because there were many excellent entries and a lot of prizes to give away. Come back tomorrow for the full list of winners.

There are a variety of ways in which you can win so whichever way you prefer is fine by me. Why you should win: Add a comment to this thread explaining why you should win a prize in under 30 words- the funnier the better.
Or you can simply add your comment as to what PDA-247 has meant to you over the past 9 years- the more ego boosting the better:)

“Shaun and the contributor gang at PDA-247 have done an awesome job keeping the site fresh and relevant all these years even though the mobile tech world has changed almost beyond recognition since the site was started! They feature changes and new tech with genuine enthusiasm and honesty in a way that you can’t get anywhere else. I said it years ago, and it’s just as true today: I still check back every day.” Howard Tomlinson. CEO, Astraware.
“A website that keeps abreast of modern smartphone technology which provides conversation and rich indulging content like no other site. It’s not just about what’s hot, its about discussion and over the years PDA-247 has built a strong community of followers that should be proud to be part of it.” Jonathan Love, Clove Technology.
Let’s make a song!
Last week I posted the news about Tom Munch’s albums reaching iTunes and Alloafan came up with a great idea-
I think we ought to write a collaborative PDA247 song (‘My New Smartphone – Song for Shaun’?) that Tom can set to appropriate music. How ’bout it?
Here’s a possible chorus for starters……
And when it freezes, my whole world turns cold,
I bawl and scream, let the anger unfold;
So put it on eBay, just get it sold,
And maybe go back to a Blackberry Bold?
Even better, here’s what Tom said- “I’m game, and that’s a great chorus to start.”
So, if you want to put some words together feel free to add them here and we will see what we can come up with. They don’t have to be about PDA-247, but could be about mobiles in general. The best ones will be entered into the competition to win the £400 or runners-up prizes.

Come back Monday…
Make sure you come back on Monday. One of you will be taking home £400 by the end of January and details of how to win will be posted on Monday when PDA-247 will be 9 year’s old!
Mobile site goes desktop again…
I have disabled the mobile version of PDA-247 again after some of you complained that it is still popping up on desktop browsers. I experienced this myself last week as well so will work over the weekend to find a permanent fix. Thanks for your patience.

PDA-247 on your Kindle
The whole idea of paying to view a blog on an Amazon Kindle is strange to me, but if you really want to there will be a PDA-247 version available within the next 24 hours. I will post the link when it is published, may already be live actually, but feel free to give it a trial and let us know what you think.

Do you want a PDA-247 mobile site? Take the poll
I have recently re-enabled the PDA-247 mobile site so that it automatically detects when you are on a mobile or smartphone. The poll below is designed to gauge how many of you actually require this feature.

You must be sick of listening to me
Every day you guys have to endure my writing and many of you keep coming back for more. However, time is tight at the moment with the day job and freelance work so I am appealing for you to produce some content for PDA-247. It can be anything from a quick thought to a review of hardware, accessory or software and basically anything goes as long as it is well written.
If you have something to say please send your content to shaun (at) mailstm.co.uk. Your help is much appreciated!
Next week: N8, 9780, Palm Pre 2 and more!
Parcels have been dropping through my letterbox steadily this week. I have lots of freelance writing to do, but you can expect reviews of the Nokia N8, BlackBerry 9780, a Windows Phone 7 device and possibly a Palm Pre 2. It’s a lot to cram in so one may be delayed until the week after. In the meantime, I am always happy to receive your reviews, thoughts and anything else you think deserves a place on the site. Please send to shaun (at) mailstm.co.uk. I need all the help, and time, I can get!!!
Emails…
Just a quick point. If you are expecting an email reply or haven’t seen one of your comments (first time commenters only) posted, I am having some email problems. It seems that only about 50% are getting through and that a HUGE amount of spam has come in (over 500 emails last night alone).
So, if you are waiting for a reply please be patient…

Click the Elephant!
If you use EverNote you can now load any PDA-247 content into your EverNote account by clicking the Elephant below each article. You do need to click the title first to bring up the single article page, working on that one, but tests have gone well so far and this could be useful if you want to read the longer articles and reviews later on. The resulting pop-up offers you the choice of which notebook to save the article in and the final article should show just the text and images from the article itself, not the entire site page. All feedback welcome.
Clie World Magazine
While doing some research for my retro N770 review yesterday I stumbled across the very first Clie World Magazine which is till available online. The writing isn’t great, but it may bring back some memories for you of when we used to get excited by the simplest of developments in the PDA world. You can read the whole of the first issue here.
“Welcome to the ‘pilot’ edition of CLIEWorld Magazine. In this first issue you will find a taster of what to expect in future issues such as reviews, articles and loads of interesting CLIE/Palm OS related information. This issue if free and is really a tester to see what future features are required by you- the reading public. You should expect at least 4 times the content in future issues. I would be grateful if you could take the time to let me know what type of content you would like to see in the future (email me: webmaster@clieworld.co.uk).
I’m particularly interested in what ‘format’ you would prefer to view the magazine in. There are a few options such as HTML, iSilo, HandStory Clip, Doc, Palm Reader etc. The reasons for the first three formats are that I think this is the ‘only’ PDA related magazine available which actually looks like a magazine on a PDA i.e. graphics, full formatting etc. If you are reading this you probably own a PDA, it’s more than likely colour and if it’s a CLIE it’s likely to have hi-res so it makes sense to take advantage of these features. Don’t worry if you own an older PDA- the text version will always be available via Palm Reader or Doc.
Finally I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this first edition, in particular George Birman and Sean Charles, and look forward to working with you all for a long time to come.”
247 and You
This is a quick reminder that you can donate to PDA-247 if you enjoy the content every day. Details are on the about page and there are some perks for any donation of $5 and above. It is very difficult to come up with iPhone or Android related perks due to the way the software is sold, but I continue to hunt out deals for you if I can.
There are a few adverts on 247 and the goal of any site is to use income to cover the costs and turn a profit, but if I am honest it is not always easy to do that. The site will continue no matter what, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks for listening:)
